• Missions

Our congregation has a long history of supporting mission efforts in many different parts of the world. However, in the spring of 1999, our elders realized that it was time to reevaluate and reemphasize our mission involvement. They asked a committee of interested members to create a comprehensive plan for the support of mission work by our congregation. That committee established guidelines for evaluating mission programs with respect to how they would be compatible to the needs, goals and assets of Philo Road. In the fall of 1999, five mission works were chosen using the new guidelines.

Subsequently, the Mission Partners program was created to work in support of the mission efforts of our congregation. The Mission Partners volunteers serve by doing many different activities, such as grading World Bible School lessons, prepare the missions bulletin board, collecting supplies, creating teaching materials, developing curriculum for mission points, and sending encouragement cards and letters to missionaries. Some members travel to mission locations to provide both spiritual and physical support. In the past, volunteers have worked on new construction, general fix-up, gardening, painting, evangelism and benevolent activities.

Mission efforts supported by the Philo Road Church of Christ include:
Illini for Christ
Bible Institute of Central America
Por Los Ninos Children's Home
Shults-Lewis Child and Family Services
